Saturday 23rd April at Castle Combe Circuit saw the 1st of the "Action Days" held every year.  3 WSCC areas (Cheltenham & Gloucester, Bath & Bristol, and Somerset & Dorset) had stands at Combe and the "should" have been a good show of Westfields.  However, the weather was appalling, and despite having had requests for 12 admission passes, only 5 Bristol & Bath members (in 2 Westfields) braved the rain.  It was a similar story form the other WSCC areas and so in total we had a grand total of 9 Westfields make it to Combe.  Only a few of us ventured onto the Circuit - I was brave / foolish enough to have two sessions.  On the first, which was the opening session of the day, the driving standard wasn't too bad.  The track was very slippery but as everybody had been given a big lecture about safety etc, there wasn't any Max Power nuttiness.  That must have been the only session for which this held true.  On my next session 90 minutes later it was sheer lunacy on the track.  Few people put their headlights on, there was spinning and sliding all over the place & nutter GTi's trying to undertake into corners.  I abandoned the session after two laps wishing to preserve myself and the car.  If you've ever wondered what it's like driving on a very slippery wet racing circuit in a Westfield with an aero screen and "dry" track day tyres - it's not fun.  Before venturing onto the track, I'd put my suspension and ARB settings to a medium setting.  The last time out on the track they were set quite hard and this was perfect.  I'd been told to soften things up for wet conditions.  I'd backed everything off to the softest possible settings.  This made the car more controllable but it was still very scary!
