Cambridge Area Report August04
Sunday 1st
I thought that for this meeting that I’d humour the Peterborough contingent
of the area by having the meeting at the Peterborough end of our patch.
I did the usual posting on the board and asked Martin (the ex AO) if he’d
mind sorting out the route as my knowledge of that part of the area is not great.
We arranged to meet in two groups, the usual suspects and myself at Tesco at
Milton and Martin and the other usual suspects at some hotel or other (forgot
the name it was a while ago) just off the A1 near Peterborough.
We had a good turn out with myself (Zetec SE), Liam (Pinto SEiW) Chris (CVH
SEiW), Neil (CVH SEiW), Dick (SE Xflow) and Langly (Pinto Quantum Xtreme)
After having met up at the Hotel, Martin took us on a medium speed loop around
Peterborough in the vague direction of Oakham where he was overtaken by Chris
who had decided to hijack the run.
Chris took us into Oakham itself and after a brief chat with a chap in a flat
cap (closet Caterham driver, maybe) found us a good parking spot in the local
church yard.
It didn’t occur to me initially that we’d become the main attraction at the Oakham motor show/village fate but things became clear as we parked up and the crowds gathered.
There was a diverse display of cars on display around the town centre, stuff
like a Mustang Mach 1, Austin 7, Datsun 280Z, Cobra Replica a couple of Rollers
(old and erm... older) about 20-30 cars of interest in all.
We did a great job of representing WSCC by letting the good folk of Oakham admire
our cars whilst we buggered off to the Pub!!!!!!
We returned to the cars about two hours later and departed to finish our run,
finishing back up at the hotel.
After a short conversation with a Barry Boy driving a Pimlico Kit Car and a
Caterham Driver who looked on at the assembled Westies with jealously and envy,
we made our way back home.
